Misipati “Semi” Bird is an Behavioral Scientist who is throwing his hat into the ring for Richland School Board Position 3.

Here is the questions we asked Mr. Bird “There is a lot of concern with parents rights regarding curriculum, masks, and vaccines. Where do you stand no those issues and where do those rights come from?”

And his reply:

Thank you for the great questions. I have a huge concern regarding the dismissal of parents rights within our school district. Parents need to have more engagement when it comes to curriculum approval, which is why I am proposing the development of a parents committee that is selected by the school board and has direct access to the school board. Of the parents, by the parents for the parents. I see my role of school director as a union steward for parents. I don’t work for the school district, I work for parents. That is layed out in the Revised Code of Washington. RCW 28A.150.230 The board of directors must partner with parents to ensure a quality education for our students.

Look at what the teachers union sent out to the teachers.

As a behavioral scientist, I know that our students are suffering from isolation and reduced interpersonal engagement. Masks are not as effective as some may have us believe, and the cost that our children are paying for the Governor’s mandate is huge.

As a school board director, I need to look for the most inclusive path to resolution, which is why I support mask and vaccine choice. Parents should have the right to unmask their children, and parents should have the right to mask their children. The key phrase is, “parents should have the right.”

Under the state constitution of Washington State, school board positions are elected positions, and as such, we should have the local control to enforce or not enforce mandates, since mandates are not laws. Further, OSPI can threaten to hold back funding, but I would vote to call their bluff. Let them know that we have an obligation to our constituents as defined by the RCW.

The health department has no authority to make mandates either. Their role is to advise only.

Forcing American citizens to get a vaccine against their will is a bold move to compromise our rights guaranteed by the constitution of the United States of America. That said, I will always keep an open mind to the truth in science and the greater good, but I would also say that most citizens are smart enough to know when we get to that point.
